High School Physics Department: Interactive Inversion Class
On November 15, Ms. Dai Yu Wen from the High School Physics Department delivered a wonderful open class in Zhentao Building Recording Room, which vividly introduced the basic knowledge of force through a highly interactive inversion class.
Ms. Dai's open class was contrary to the traditional teacher-centered teaching model, but let students really become the master of the classroom. Based on the physics knowledge learned in junior high school, students worked in small groups to independently learn new knowledge through digital resources before class, turning the classroom into a place for student-dominated interaction, problem solving, knowledge application and practical innovation. For example, during the introduction to tension in a rope, a group of students took out a thick rope and revealed knowledge about tension in class by demonstrating a traditional competitive event called tug of war. In this highly interactive classroom atmosphere, students' enthusiasm and participation were significantly improved.
It is worth mentioning that Ms. Dai also integrated many traditional Chinese elements in the whole class, making students deeply feel the charm of physics and the wisdom of ancient Chinese people. For example, when explaining gravity, Ms. Dai quoted the method of ancient people in the old Book of Tang to bring water to houses to cool, so that students have a deeper understanding of gravity. In the summary part, Ms. Dai borrowed the song of "Funeral Flower Chant" from “A Dream in Red Mansions”, composed a new "song of force" with the knowledge of gravity, normal force and tension, and performed it on the class, pushing the atmosphere of this class to a climax.
This highly interactive inversion class of Ms. Dai was well received by the teachers. It represented another successful attempt of the physics department to integrate Chinese culture into the physics class. This kind of classroom mode needs careful design and effective guidance in class to ensure its smooth implementation. In the future teaching, the physics department will continue to explore and try more diversified classroom modes to create more vivid and interesting physics classes.
