SHSID 30th Anniversary|Alumni Share Wisdom & Discuss the Future

November 14, 2023

As SHSID celebrates its 30th anniversary, alumni from different fields and industries have recently returned to the school to visit teachers and speak at multiple alumni-sharing events on the topics of growth journey, career development, life insights, etc. They used personal experiences as examples to encourage students to cherish their school time and continuously explore their potential.

Archie, a 2019 alumnus who graduated from Cornell University, shared about his university life and his current work at Cornell Lab of Ornithology, the world's largest bird research center. As one of the founders of the SHSID Birding Club, Archie realized that his path to bird research began on the SHSID campus. After graduating, he has always maintained communication with the teachers and classmates of the birding club, helping the club continue to carry out more research and club activities. Soon, he will also cooperate with the current president of the school birding club to give a research lecture in Shanghai, sharing their club activities, such as bird collision research, and corresponding measures.

Frank, a 2020 alumnus currently studying at Yale University, shared about his Yale studies after two years of military service in Singapore. During his high school years, Frank was passionate about many group projects and had always excelled in the field of perseverance. In addition to being the president of the IAA and Debate Society, he also served as a journalist and editorial director at PA and was one of the earliest high school students in China to publish historical research surveys in Concord Review journals. He suggests that younger students actively participate in various club activities and projects during their school years, practice their teamwork skills, and establish a clear development path.

Charlie, a 2021 alumnus, currently studying at the University of California, Berkeley, shared his experience of studying computer science at Berkeley. He explained the school's curriculum, assignments, project formats, various research, and internship opportunities both on and off campus. Charlie also helped students become immersed in the rich campus life at Berkeley.

Alumni of the 2021 class, three senior students from the University of Cambridge, Imperial College London, and the London School of Economics and Political Science, respectively, shared with their classmates the everyday life of British universities and how they decided on their passion and future path during their high school years of interest exploration. They encourage students to be brave enough to try new things and expand their horizons.

Adelynn, a 2022 alumna studying at the California Institute of Technology, shared her interest in exploring the field of physics during her high school years with her classmates and summarized methods for learning physics. She encourages everyone not to be afraid to step out of their comfort zone but to be brave enough to try and challenge themselves.

The ongoing alumni sharing sessions have built a platform for communication, interaction, and common growth, allowing students to draw wisdom and experience from outstanding alumni. In the upcoming Dec 27th, SHSID will also hold an alumni return day event, and we have received many applications and registrations from alumni. We look forward to alumni gathering on campus on the day of the event to share their growth experience. We are looking forward to being with everyone and meeting up again.
