Grade 12 CAS: Autumn “Campus Tour”
On November 8, during the CAS class, twelfth-grade students enthusiastically participated in an orienteering activity on the school campus. This meticulously designed event required them to collect stamps by completing engaging tasks dispersed throughout the grounds, fostering teamwork and enhancing their physical fitness and athletic prowess. Amidst the crisp autumn weather and following the completion of first-round college applications and midterm exams, the students wholeheartedly embraced this invigorating endeavor.
As the CAS session commenced, students eagerly departed from the classrooms, dispersing to various outdoor locations to engage in a diverse array of captivating sports games. The first checkpoint, situated near the Xianmian Building, showcased the students' precise aiming and positioning skills. They eagerly embraced the challenge of hurling arrows into designated vases, initially encountering difficulties. However, through persistent attempts and dedicated practice, they ultimately mastered the technique, deriving confidence and jubilation. This task point served as an inspiring and challenging experience, fueling their thirst for knowledge.
Subsequently, near the convenience store Lawson, students energetically formed queues, collaboratively tackling a series of tasks: engaging in three rounds of synchronized Double Dutch jump rope, performing 70 rounds of individual jump rope, and executing around 30 rounds of cooperative Double Dutch jump rope. Although many initially faced difficulties with synchronized jumping and Double Dutch techniques, their unwavering determination and collective teamwork enabled them to triumph over the challenges. This task point exemplified the students' spirit of collaboration, as they mutually encouraged, supported, and assisted one another, conquering obstacles as a unified force.
The students then proceeded to the third task point, located in front of the Zhentao Building. Here, they skillfully employed ping pong paddles to perform individual and cooperative ball bouncing. Once they moved away from the ping pong tables, controlling the trajectory of the ping pong balls presented a heightened challenge. The students not only exhibited precise paddle manipulation but also skillfully coordinated their body movements to ensure accurate ball contact. This task point honed their dexterity and reflexes, allowing them to relish the gratification of mastering athletic finesse.
At the adjacent station, students actively participated in a beanbag tossing game. With each throw, they skillfully propelled the beanbags into designated targets, creating lofty parabolic arcs, which provided a delightful and exhilarating experience. This task point not only tested their accuracy in throwing but also ignited an appreciation for the underlying physics principles, fostering an intrinsic interest in sports kinetics.
The final task point required students to utilize traditional techniques to spin tops, adeptly maintaining their rotation for a remarkable 10 seconds. The seemingly diminutive toy tops concealed intricate skills, necessitating diligent experimentation with striking force and angles. Through their persistent efforts, the students acquired mastery over top spinning, culminating in a palpable sense of achievement. This task point fostered their patience and refined motor control, enabling them to relish the triumph that arises from acquiring new skills through tenacity and innovative exploration.
This orienteering activity encompassed a diverse range of captivating tasks, imbuing the students with a sense of challenge and joy. Each task point was thoughtfully crafted to stimulate their athletic potential and promote collaborative camaraderie. By engaging in a multitude of activities, the students not only enhanced their physical fitness and skill sets but also developed teamwork, communication, and problem-solving proficiencies. The activity provided a comprehensive opportunity for students to unwind, revel in outdoor pursuits, and facilitate their holistic well-being.
