Grade 11 Assembly: Rowing Adventure in the Suzhou River

October 26, 2023

In the morning of October 19, two students from Class 11(3), Henry and Mimi, shared their experiences participating in the Head of Shanghai River Regatta with the school rowing team.

First, Henry described how their training session was tough and tedious, but they managed to persevere through all the training and eventually learned a lot from the coaches. Then, Mimi told the students that on the day of the competition, they had encountered several difficulties. However, under the assistance of the coaches and teammates, they finished the race with excellent results. They showed the students two videos of their race and introduced some techniques about rowing while playing the video. The direction of the boat is generally very hard to maneuver in the Suzhou River. The teammates on each boat needed to communicate efficiently to row at the fastest speed. Also, in the video, the students could hear the loud voices cheering for SHSID along the banks of the river. Finally, the two students talked about some key takeaways from this experience. They told the students to seize every opportunity that the school offers them, and to not be afraid to stand in front of a camera and share their experiences. Furthermore, they emphasized the importance of teamwork, which was the key to their success and achievements.
