Grade 9 Assembly:Introduction to Adventurous Journey (AJ) Program of the Duke of Edinburgh International Award (DOE) -
Entering a new month of October, the Grade 9 students have actively engaged in a variety of competitions and activities throughout the academic year. In addition to their academic studies, students are eager to accumulate more experiences and opportunities granted on off-campus activities, laying a solid foundation for their future. An assembly was held on October 17, inviting several seniors to introduce an award provided to inspire teenagers to recognize who are they as a person and promote the aspect of growth — The Duke of Edinburgh International Award (DOE).
The speakers illustrated the entire course of the Adventurous Journey (AJ), depicting the challenges the students will face. The activity is divided into three main parts. First, before leaving, students will learn a series of safety guidelines to prepare them for possible injuries occurring when given a particular task . When everything is in order, the teams will embark on their distinctive journey. During the journey, they will experience the living habits and folk art of local people. Students will not only have a chance to feel close to nature in the process of exploring significant and new things, but also to socialize with many friends sharing a common goal in the process. Finally, after the journey, the students will summarize the benefits and highlights of their unique journeys. For students, to experience both a intrepid and knowledgeable journey is undoubtedly a rare experience, and obtaining this award is also of great accomplishment to the academic year.
As participants of the previous awards, the explanations of the seniors will certainly broaden the horizon and increase the interests of Grade 9 students, helping them gain more inspiration from this opportunity.
