Puxi Campus G4-5 | Sports Carnival

October 18, 2023

In the midst of the refreshing and pleasant October air, the students of Grade 4 and 5 in Puxi Campus ushered in the annual sports carnival activity. The students were enthusiastic, showing their youthful energy and team spirit on the sports field. Ms. Zhang Zehong, Secretary General of SHS, Mr. Liu Lian, Principal of SHSID Middle and Primary School section, Ms. Zhang Li, Vice Principal of High School section, Mr. Shen Tianyuan, Vice Principal of Middle and Primary school section, Ms. Hu Bo, Assistant Principal of High School section, Ms. Miao Xiaoling, Assistant Principal of Middle and Primary School section, Mr. Ni Minxue, Director of MPTC, Ms. Zhang Yi, Director of Puxi Campus Grade 1-3, and Ms. Lu Luting, Director of Puxi Campus Grade 4-5 attended, cheered and supported our athletes!

The Sports Carnival started with exciting music. Student representative Jocelyn from Class 5-1 went to the stage to deliver her speech. With the vigor of sweat and pure passion, she shared the power and warmth of "perseverance", explaining that "there aren't so many exceptionally talented people; outstanding ones always work hard at night!" Only by persevering and never giving up can one become their own hero.

Following that, Ms. Lu Luting, Puxi G4-5 Director, warmly welcomed all the guests and students present and delivered a speech for the Sports Carnival. She emphasized that for the students of SHSID, sports activities are not just about competition. More importantly, she hoped that the students could enjoy the fun through these activities and learn to work together to achieve their goals. In the end, Ms. Lu and all the fourth and fifth graders expressed their sincere gratitude to the PE teachers, homeroom teachers, parent volunteers, and other staff who worked hard to organize the 2023 Sports Carnival.

Next, the fourth and fifth graders shouted their powerful sports slogans, as if declaring their confidence and momentum to the world. As the music started, all the students jumped up in unison for the warm-up exercise on the field. It was a youthful rhythm, with each movement releasing vibrant energy, igniting the increasingly autumnal morning. Subsequently, Principal Liu Lian went to the stage to announce the official start of this passionate and energetic carnival.

The first event was the classic carnival game — the "Hula Hoop Relay"; a teacher-student competition. All the homeroom teachers from Grades four and five formed a team to compete with the 16 classes. The students tried their best to beat the teachers. The parent volunteers also transformed into the most enthusiastic cheerleaders, with continuous shouts of "go!" In the end, the teacher team won the competition as usual. When the last teacher successfully went through the hula hoop, they couldn't help but cheer and jump like children. The joy of sports affected everyone equally.

Following that, the fourth and fifth graders carried out a series of class and small group activities in the indoor basketball court and tennis court. These activities trained the students' teamwork abilities. For example, the "Caterpillar Dash" required six students to move in unison, lifting a giant caterpillar forward with their small hands. The "Ice Cream Cone Relay" required 16 students to concentrate fully, catching the airborne "ice cream ball" and throwing it into the next "cone". In small group activities like "Super Wheeler", "Partner Relay", and "Ball Control Relay", 2-3 students formed a group. These all challenged and evoked their proactive thinking and problem-solving abilities. The whole class participated in the "Obstacle Relay", where the students tried their best to "cross mountains and ridges" by going through various obstacles. Those who weren't participating also actively cheered for their class! In the tennis hall, we could also see students aiming carefully, calmly throwing darts and shooting baskets.

This carnival was not only a sports event but also an opportunity for students to exercise and boost their self-confidence. The students participated in various competitions with full enthusiasm and a positive attitude, exemplifying the spirit of sports through unity, cooperation, and striving. The successful holding of the carnival was also accomplished due to the strong support and efforts of all teachers, students, and parents. Let's look forward to the upcoming sports week activities for Grade four and five!
