Exploring the Boundless Sky of Career Development - Visiting Shanghai Astronomy Museum on the SHSID High School PD day

On October 13th, 2023, the PD day for high school teachers at SHSID took place as scheduled. With the aim of stimulating interdisciplinary thinking, this activity was specially chosen to visit the Astronomy Museum, hoping to explore the intersection and integration between various disciplines through astronomy as a connection point, thereby improving students' knowledge understanding and comprehensive application abilities.

As a pre-event warm-up, each subject group shared their experiences in interdisciplinary teaching on the BB platform in advance. How to use knowledge from other disciplines to enrich the teaching of the subject and how to find innovative teaching methods to stimulate students' interest have become hot topics of discussion. At the same time, we also raised the issues and challenges encountered during the process of trying interdisciplinary teaching.

On the morning of October 13th, teachers gained a more intuitive understanding of astronomical knowledge by observing and interacting with various astronomical instruments and celestial models. During the visit, the teachers engaged in interdisciplinary thinking by integrating the pre-prepared astronomy knowledge cards related to their respective subjects. How to apply these seemingly abstract astronomical knowledge to daily life and learning became the focus of their reflection. In this way, the teachers hope to help students break down disciplinary barriers and stimulate their innovative thinking.

The PD Day trip to the Astronomy Museum was an outstanding success. This interdisciplinary visit not only inspired teachers but also challenged their preconceived notions, leading them to make more positive adjustments in cultivating students' innovative thinking and comprehensive application abilities. After the trip to the museum, the teachers expressed that they had benefited a lot. Not only did they acquire a deeper understanding of astronomical knowledge, but they also realized the significance of interdisciplinary teaching. Additional follow-up teaching and research activities will continue to be carried out in-depth.
