History and Geography Department: Scientific Revolution Job Fair - History and Science Interdisciplinary Demo Class

October 17, 2023

On the afternoon of October 16, Mr. William Ikerd and Mr. Lyle Sylvander worked with two History classes to conduct a demonstration lesson on the topic of the “Scientific Revolution Job Fair”. In the classroom, students participated in a mock job fair by role-playing in groups, with half of the students acting as scientific thinkers during the Scientific Revolution and the other half acting as European rulers during the same time period. The “scientific thinkers” took turns presenting and “selling” their ideas and achievements to the “rulers” in order to get “hired”.

Through interdisciplinary inquiry, students provide examples of scientific discoveries in math, physics, chemistry, and anatomy, as well as gain a more vivid and detailed understanding of the scientific achievements of the time. In communicating with each other, they were not only able to understand the various achievements during the Scientific Revolution, but also deepened their understanding of the impact of these scientific and technological achievements on the European society as well as the world. This demonstration class also provided new teaching ideas and inspiration for other teachers in the History and Geography Department.
