Grade 9 Assembly: Medical Club - Recruiting New Members!
Seven weeks have passed since the beginning of the academic year, and the 9th graders have gradually adapted to the rapid pace of freshman life. On the other hand, they are looking for more opportunities to illustrate high school life as enthusiastic and bright. Various clubs have actively advertised their clubs to the students, eager to recruit more fascinated and talented students.
During the grade assembly on October 10, members of the Medical Club performed a vivid demonstration of first aid procedures. Through a number of considerable, different scenes, the Medical Club members informed the 9th graders of the steps required during unforeseen injuries. For example, if someone should break a bone accidentally, students should, “Gently bend the injured person's arm to 80 degrees, wrap a long triangular strip of cloth around the arm, and tie the strip around the back of the neck."
As for more serious conditions, such as cardiac arrest, the members of the Medical Club demonstrated standard cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) compressions and specified the proper use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). At the same time, they indicated the specific location of AEDs in the school's ZT building, so both students and teachers could find them quickly in case of an emergency.
As a club (created by students) of the Shanghai High School International Division, the Medical Club has made unremitting efforts to provide 9th graders with more opportunities to get in touch with the medical field since it started. It assists with the aim to broaden their horizons and provide useful references for the choice of future college courses. Through club activities such as the Medical Club, students can not only learn practical first aid skills, but they can also improve on their teambuilding skills to face future challenges together.
