Grades 9-10: ASB Election - The Blossoming of Youth Full of Anticipation

During the last two periods of the afternoon on September 13th, 2023, the 9th-grade and 10th-grade students of SHSID assembled in the Grand Auditorium, attending the annual ASB Election.

The annual election of ASB is perceived as an event marking the commencement of a new school year. At the beginning of every school year, one student is chosen from each homeroom as the candidate. Since the start of term, excitement has been spreading among the students as for who will be elected to the ASB. Every step was taken very seriously, from the sign-ups and in-homeroom speeches to the voting for the official election. As is every year, every student who attempted to run for ASB was worth praising.

This year was no exception: the election had already widely attracted attention in its early stages. Self-introduction posters of the candidates were attached to the whiteboards in the corridor of the first floor of the Zhentao Building. Colorful and well-designed, the teachers and students were always attracted by these posters while passing by, stopping often to view them. Some students even met during lunchtime break to get acquainted with the candidates.

The official election was divided into two parts: speeches and quickfire Q&A sessions. Before the speeches started, a nervous atmosphere pervaded the backstage. All the candidates quietly practiced their speeches repeatedly to make sure that they would be able to perfectly present themselves onstage. Then, under the audience's gaze, the candidates made their speeches one by one. A warm round of applause from the audience followed each speech by the candidates. After the speech part ended, there was the nerve-racking Q&A part. Each candidate randomly drew a question and had 30 seconds to prepare for a 30-second response. With tactful, profound, or heart-warming stories, as well as response strategies full of humanistic emotions, the candidates vividly exhibited their ideas and thoughts, making the election all the more engaging.

No matter the results, all the candidates gained valuable experience in participating in the ASB election. Congratulations to the candidates finally elected! We hope they can bring the students an unforgettable school year!
