G6 | Puxi Campus: Wonderful First Week of Grade 6

September 13, 2023

The new school year of 2023 is upon us. During the first week of school, children quickly assume new roles. Under the guidance of the head teacher and class instructors, students are gradually gaining confidence as they embark on their journey into sixth grade.

In the hallway, the brand-new bulletin board prompts children to contemplate the behaviors junior high school students should prioritize. In the classroom, the teachers' outstanding PowerPoint (PPT) lessons evoke bursts of enthusiasm. The positive learning environment fosters students' positivity and encourages them to continually explore new pathways to academic success.

Soon, the much-anticipated first Youth Development (YD) class arrives. Instead of the usual and straightforward self-introduction, this class encourages adolescents to establish meaningful emotional connections with their teachers through thought-provoking questions: "Have you ever done anything to hurt another person?"; "What are the most unacceptable behaviors that others have exhibited towards you?"; "What traits do you think would make you popular among your classmates?" Group activities are conducted in an organized manner, with all students eagerly participating, sharing lively anecdotes that evoke both humor and profound reflection. Each of the 12 classes boasts its own set of exceptional teachers, each with unique skills. No amount of pictures or documentation can truly capture the wonderful progress and positive expressions of the children. No amount of space can deter teachers and students from their investments and love for the classrooms.

After the YD class, students discussed the productivity of the interactive in-class activities. One student, Althea from 6(1), shared, "During Youth Development class today, we discussed the topic of proper language and behavior. We learned that some motivations behind bullying may stem from the bullies' own insecurities, jealousy, or misguided beliefs about what's 'cool.' Additionally, we were introduced to ways to deal with bullies, such as ignoring them and walking away, or reporting their behavior. Most importantly, we learned to stay calm and composed in such situations."

The children's hard work and dedication, coupled with the teacher's diligent preparation, are yielding positive results. We believe that this semester will be fruitful and contribute to positive developmental growth. Let us eagerly anticipate the achievements and progress of our middle school students in the coming days.
