Freshmen Back-to-School Day: Embarking on the First Steps of High School Life

As the summer vacation came to an end, the anticipated new school year arrived. On August 31st, at Shanghai High School International Division, the Grade 9 freshmen participated in the Back-to-School Day, marking the beginning of their high school journey.

The freshmen gathered in their homerooms, filled with excitement. They received textbooks for the new semester, initiating their curiosity about new realms of knowledge. Homeroom teachers introduced themselves warmly and fostered a welcoming atmosphere. The teachers also elaborated on school rules and regulations, as well as the upcoming schedules, laying the foundation for the students' campus life.

After organizing their textbooks, the freshmen headed to the Annex Auditorium in the Xianmian Building to attend their first lecture in high school. First, Dr. Wu Chen, the Grade 9 head teacher, delivered a comprehensive overview of high school academic and social life, painting a vivid picture of the diverse experiences awaiting the freshmen. She encouraged everyone to maintain a positive attitude toward learning, make the most of available resources, and strive for excellence.

Next, Ms. Chen Lin from the Teacher Advisor Office introduced the guidance provided to students in both academic and personal-growth aspects. She shared insights on how to make the most of this opportunity and gradually adapt to their high school life.

Lastly, Ms. Cui Mengdi from the College Counseling Office delivered a speech. Drawing from her extensive experience, she illuminated various facets of the college application process and showed the potential pathways for future higher education. She encouraged freshmen to actively use the resources on campus to make good career planning choices.

During this lecture, the freshmen absorbed much information, filling themselves with anticipation for the future high school experience. Equipped with knowledge and a positive mindset, they are now ready to embrace the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. As the new school year commences, SHSID looks forward to witnessing these Grade 9 freshmen thrive and grow, as they craft their own remarkable narratives for their future.
