May 30, 2023

There are multiple voluntary SHSID clubs regularly and actively participating in various activities. For Children's Day this year, volunteers also participated in two activities for children with autism.

"Clover"

On the morning of May 27th, 10 students and their guidance counselor from SHSID joined as volunteers at a Children's Day themed activity held by Clover Care Center. During the activity, they participated in wide range of tasks. Their respective specialities were: on-site photography, hosting, assisting in check-in, organizing games, etc. Volunteers monitored various positions and contributed to this event.

Since October 2021, the volunteer teachers have been leading students to participate in volunteer activities at “Clover” every Friday afternoon. The school has also buiIt partner relationship with "Clover" since November, 2022.

As the music sounded, the student host from SHSID led the children into the small talent show. The atmosphere was further livened up by the heartwarming singing performances. Two student photographers captured the precious moments during the event.

The volunteers quickly transitioned into the activities of the Fun Fair, which were divided into different groups, such as: slam dunk, happy table tennis, ring toss, song guessing, and fun quizzes. They were excited to engage the children in fun activities to bring smiles to their faces.

Some volunteers were also in charge of the Charity Bazaar activities. The booths are filled with paintings of Children, including watercolors, oil paintings, and gouaches. Volunteers assisted the teachers from Clover Care and sold several paintings.

"Silent Angel"

Students from SHSID gathered at Shanghai Silent Angel Kindergarten (SAK) on the morning of May 28th. It was also a special event to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Shanghai Silent Angel Kindergarten. Since 2010, SHSID has been actively supporting SAK through a volunteer program that sends student volunteers to help with the care and education of children with autism.

This weekend event was divided into a talent show, carnivals and a charity sale. Student volunteers from SHSID worked as hosts, performers and photographers. At 9:40 A.M.,the talent show had officially begun. Gloria took to the stage as both the host and a performer. Her Latin dance jazzed up the atmosphere. After her was Linda’s pop-dance. Her innovative dance moves amazed the audiences. The kids from Silent Angels also performed: some danced, some played erhu, and one played a song using the ocarina. Andrew and Catie had the last performance from SHSID. They sang “Hero”, the lyrics and melodious singing inspired the Silent Angels and their family members. After the talent show, the children excitedly turned to the carnival and charity sale. Many families contributed their love towards SAK and the children. Student photographer Daniel recorded precious memories for kids and families.

Overall, the two events ended successfully, with everyone involved feeling a great sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. The students had not only provided material support to the underprivileged children but also showed them love and warmth through their performances and interactions with them. We wish a very Happy Children’s Day to all children!
