Pudong Campus: Exploring Curiosity and Creativity — A Look at Science Fair
In the afternoon of May 25th, all the students of the Pudong campus finally had their long-anticipated Science Fair. Our young scientists are always obsessed with their "why" questions in their daily lives, and the Science Fair offers them a perfect chance to explore their curiosity and demonstrate their creativity. To find the answers to their questions, these young scientists had been busy working for almost a whole month. They followed the scientific methods we had learned and practiced in science classes: identifying a problem, formulating a hypothesis, conducting an experiment, analyzing the data, and drawing a conclusion.
This year, we focused more on the skill of asking good questions. Finding a good Science Fair question is the first step to a successful science experiment. If you are a curious thinker, you will find that there are numerous questions in daily life, the books you read, the games you play, and even the food you enjoy. Our students raised many intriguing questions, such as "How can I enjoy my popsicles for a longer time — which type of ice cube melts the slowest?" "My mom will do anything to avoid this problem — which type of food attracts the most insects?" and "Are plants music lovers — what kind of music helps plants grow the fastest?"
A total of 14 parent volunteers with a science background joined us as judges. They listened to the young scientists' presentations and asked insightful questions, which helped our kids gain a better understanding of their experiments and the scientific method. The judges were also impressed by the creativity of our young students. Mr. Liu Lian, principal of SHSID Middle and Primary School Section, and Ms. Liu Fang, vice principal of SHSID Middle and Primary School Section, joined our young scientists and listened to their journey of science exploring together.
As the Science Fair came to a close, the excitement and sense of accomplishment filled the air. Our young scientists proudly displayed their projects, sharing their newfound knowledge and discoveries with their peers, teachers and parents. It was a celebration of curiosity, creativity, and the limitless possibilities of scientific exploration. The Science Fair served as a reminder that with dedication, inquisitiveness, and the right guidance, our students have the potential to become the innovators and problem solvers of tomorrow. We look forward to witnessing their continued growth and success in their scientific endeavors.
