High School Physics Department: Grade 9 Paper Plane Contest
The paper plane competition organized by the physics teachers from Grade 9 was recently held in the Zhentao Building Lecture Hall. The matches were played in groups A and B on May 17 and 19, respectively.
Students from Grade 9 formed a free team and made a paper airplane with both functions and aesthetics, using only a piece of A4 paper handed out by the teacher. They used their physics knowledge and gave full play to their creativity within the specified time. Some groups drew their favorite cartoon characters on the plane, others wrote in classic physics formulas, and some improvised art drawings. The students took their proud works and went to war. These planes had different functions, each having its own strengths: some flew far, and some flew for a long time, attracting bursts of cheers from the audience. The whole competition was organized in an orderly manner by the teachers and volunteers. The competitors also showed good competitive qualities.
In order to prepare for this activity, physics teachers from G9 referred to various paper airplane competitions and formulated multi-objective scoring criteria. Students needed to use the specified materials to complete the paper airplane and balance the flight distance, flight time, aesthetics, and other indicators. The introduction of engineering thinking through practical activities is an important link between junior and senior high school physics curriculum connections.
This activity also effectively exercised students' practical ability, stimulated their love for physics, and made students realize the fun and sense of achievement in applying what they have learned to reality. May the students continue to fly in the physical sky with curiosity and thirst for knowledge.
