On the afternoon of May 18, 2023, SHSID Middle and Primary School Section Science and Technology Festival was grandly held in the school gymnasium. This year's science and technology festival continued the theme of "Creativity and Enlightenment", including 36 booths in the fields of engineering, arts and humanities, and science. The fair was a great success in order to attract more students to join in science and innovation activities, and to empower their future with technology.

01 Theme-Related Activity Series

The Science and Technology Festival was launched in March. It kicked off with the exciting "Engineering Master PK Competition" and "Green Earth" environmental theme challenge. The students performed well in the competition, which fully reflected their interest in science and engineering love. This was followed by a series of interesting popular science courses and lectures, as well as interesting popular science lectures brought by SciAcademy, which explained and popularized scientific knowledge and scientific innovation experience on various topics to students in a lively and interesting way. These lectures and course topics were closely related to life, such as the school bus route planning model and algorithm research, which fully stimulated the students' interest and spirit of exploration. Many students also benefited a lot from the off-campus general visits that followed. For more than two months, the students had been immersed in the ocean of science and technology.

02 Carnival Scenes

Thirty-six booths of various categories exhibited on site, including LEGO robots, mobile device programming, creative design, and intelligent manufacturing, behavioral psychology, and youthful global insight. Each creative course had brought its own different achievements of this school year, and a group of young science and technology enthusiasts were surrounded in front of each booth.

In addition to the booths of various innovative courses, this carnival also had the honor to invite the guests from the Center for Excellence in Molecular Plant Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Pasteur Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Shanghai Botanical Garden. These professional scientific research teams show students the magic and mysteries of science and technology with rich knowledge and interesting experiments.

Students in all booths could do experiments by themselves and try to explore the mysteries of science under the guidance of professional teachers. For example, in front of the "Animal and Medicine" booth, students can personally experience the process of surgical suturing and intraperitoneal injection, observe the regeneration ability of planarians, and have close contact with various experimental animals. Each booth had unique activities and displays. In the process of hands-on experiments and attempts, the students also experienced the attractiveness of science and learned new knowledge.

03 The Exciting Closing Ceremony

In 2022, the students of our school set new highs in technological innovation and achieved remarkable results. At the closing ceremony and awards ceremony, A short video showcasing the achievements of scientific and technological innovation served as the opening, comprehensively introducing the cultivation of students' abilities through our school's innovative courses and reviewing the main activities of this semester's Science and Technology Festival.

Finally, several respected scientists sent their messages to the students. They were Professor Wu Yuren, retired professor of physics at Tongji University (online name: Grandma Wu who did not brush the title), stem cell and developmental biologist, Professor Li Jinsong, academician of the CAS Member, and Professor Wang Enduo, academician of the CAS Member. They congratulated the Science and Technology Festival on its complete success, congratulated the 30th anniversary of Shanghai High School International Division on their happy birthday, and congratulated the SHSID students on their achievements in learning and becoming useful talents in society.

The host, Mr. Yu Xiwen, announced the list of students who won awards in STEAM related technology competitions this academic year.

Mr. Liu Lian, principal of SHSID middle and primary school section, Mr. Shen Tianyuan, director of G6-8, Ms. Shen Ying, supervisor of Grade 8 and Ms. Yan Zeng, supervisor of Grade 7, presented awards to the award-winning students. These awards are Honorable Mentions, Mega Genius, Giga Genius, Tera Genius.

During the closing ceremony, we were honored to invite Dean of the School of Basic Medicine at Fudan University and doctoral advisor in immunology, Dr. Lv Mingfang,who made a speech. She took her own experience in studying and scientific research as an example, encouraged young people to actively participate in technological innovation. Doctor Lv’s passion for science and the spirit of assiduous scientific research inspired the students and audience at the scene.

Principal Liu fully recognized the award-winning students and encouraged them to face the future, keep up with the times and strengthen their ability to apply what they have learned.

SHSID has built a rich and high-quality innovative learning platform for all the students. During the various activities of this science and technology festival, the students embarked on a creative journey. During this trip, they experienced various themed activities, listened to popular science lectures on multiple themes, and participated in wonderful competitions. Every stage of the festival is a memorable experience in this journey, opening the doors of scientific and creative thinking for the students and inviting them to proceed in the road of innovation.
