Pudong Campus: Reading is a Pleasure

May 19, 2023

Reading not only allows students to strengthen their ability to understand and analyze, but also allows them to think in various perspectives. Mr. Lu Xun once said, "Only when you read enough books, can you choose your preferred genres." After a series of reading warm-up activities, the students of SHSID Pudong campus finally had their long-awaited book recommendation activities on May 16 and May 18! The teachers recommended books of different topics, genres, and languages to the students, providing them with a broader range of book selection ideas.

During this event, the Chinese and English teachers of each grade level recommended good-fit books according to different Lexile levels of the students. Ms. Becky of the first grade introduced a series of books about history. Mr. Callum recommended Children's Osbourne Collection. Ms. Xue of Grade 2 recommended Nature Illustration and Math Adventure for the younger children and Start the Business from Ten Years Old for the students of higher grades. Ms. Cassidy, also in the second grade, recommended The Notebook of Doom, The Bad Guys, and other series for the children. Ms. Yang, the third-grade teacher, recommended The Very Kid Ma Mingga, which was close to the students' daily lives, and The Savior in the Zoo by Liu Cixin, which excited the students with its fantastic stories. After that, Teacher Tom recommended the Horrible Histories/Science/Geography series.

On May 18, the 4th and 5th grade students recommended different genres of books to the students in the audience. Jason, from 4-1, introduced Roller Skates of the Wind. Angela, from 4-2 recommended the fascinating The Girl Who Drank the Moon. The fifth-grade students, Stanley and Golden recommended The Three-Body Problem and Project Hail Mary. Last but not least, Mr. Wu Xiaodong, director of SHSID Pudong Campus introduced Faces in the Crowd for the higher-level reader! There were so many wonderful books that students wanted to dive deeper into the ocean of books! Let's see if you've read any of them!

Reading broadens your horizons and increases your knowledge. The teachers hope that the students can expand their reading through the series of activities in Reading Month, explore different genres, and enjoy a more exciting reading experience.
