Grade 7: Field Trip — Star Gazing

May 10, 2023

Is there a beginning of time? Is there an edge of space?

Can we go back to the past? Can we see beyond it?

SHSID’s 7th-grade students drove to the Shanghai Planetarium on a beautiful day for a grade-wide field trip, which was a time of having fun and relaxing, and the students were excited about it. When they arrived, the students visited interesting exhibitions, such as "The Moon" and “The Creation of the Universe", which taught them fun facts and made them awe at the limitless possibilities the vast universe brings. The exhibitions also provided new understandings of the solar system and the constellations of the Milky Way.

After enjoying a quick lunch, the students viewed more exhibitions about the scientists and astronomers that contributed to astronomical discoveries in the "Journey" exhibition area. At the end of the trip, the students learned about the “building bricks” of the universe and the structure of matter in the "Home" exhibition area. “Cosmic” words, such as "positive matter", "antimatter" and "dark energy" were added to the students’ word banks and enhanced their curiosity about the endless phenomena of space.

At two o'clock in the afternoon, the visit to the planetarium ended with reminiscence. The students enjoyed this educational and interesting field trip. Not only did they learn about knowledge relating to astronomy, but they also broadened their understanding of the world around them. This balance between studying and having fun allowed students to revive their passion for learning, stayed in a place of serenity.

The students of SHSID come from different countries, have different cultures and habits, however, they have the same yearning and common pursuit for the starry sky that everyone shares.

The universe is infinite, and the exploration is endless.
