Puxi Campus G4: Career Day Lecture
On the afternoon of May 4th, Puxi campus Grade 4 had the honor to invite four parents of students to give wonderful career lectures in the Personal Growth class. The four parents analyzed the jobs of doctors, AI engineers, jewelry industry and human resources department for the students from the aspects of personal career experience, career characteristics, and career requirements.
Do You Want to Be A Doctor?
Vincent’s mom from Class 4 (6) first showed the characteristics of hospitals in different countries, various departments and their functions to the students through several photos. Different from the emergency scenes we often see in movies and TV dramas, doctors' daily work also includes outpatient, ward rounds, consultations and so on. Vincent’s mom also introduced the special work of doctors in dealing with the COVID-19 epidemic, which made the students admire the medical staff again.
It is not easy to be a competent and qualified doctor. Firstly, a doctor must undergo years of professional study in medical school and then become an intern or resident doctor. Through Vincent's mom's sharing, the students realized that to be a good doctor not only needs solid medical knowledge, but also responsibility, patience, carefulness, and the ability to keep calm in a crisis.
The Application of AI in Finance
At present, the topic of artificial intelligence is quite popular. Harry's mom from class 4 (7) also had a discussion with the students in Grade 4 on AI. In the beginning, Harry's mother showed the scene of Lee Sedol playing AlphaGo and her conversation with ChatGPT, which made the students marveled at the power of artificial intelligence! Students also learned that artificial intelligence has been widely used in smart home, face recognition, smart wear and so on, which has greatly changed our way of life. In the area of finance, artificial intelligence can help investors and researchers carry out investment research, risk management, market analysis and insurance pricing in the financial market.
Harry's mom told everyone that AI engineers should first understand the needs of users and the problems to be solved. The next is analyzing the problem, building the model, and finally testing and optimizing the model in practice. To do this well, one must live with curiosity and dare to challenge the unknown; maintain staying power, patience, and a responsible attitude; have the ability of continuous learning, logical thinking, and other comprehensive abilities.
All about Jewelry
Silvia's mother from class 4 (1) first showed the students that jewelry is not only for women through a portrait from the Song Dynasty. In the Song Dynasty, there was the habit of men wearing jewelry and jade, and it is more common in contemporary times. After introducing the three essential qualities of a valuable piece of jewelry, beauty, durability and rarity, Silvia’s mom posed a difficult question to the jewelry consultants: If an elderly gentleman were to choose a piece of jewelry for his daughter as a family heirloom, which would you recommend? The students raised their hands and made their own choice.
The jewelry industry also has a very complete industrial chain. Through the first-hand photos and videos, the students had a visual understanding of the work of raw stone mining, procurement, and jewelry design. Silvia’s mom also encouraged students to see more exhibitions to broaden their horizon, improve their aesthetic ability, imagination and creativity, and create more beautiful life in the future!
What Can Human Resource Teach Us?
What abilities and characteristics are HR looking for in a candidate? The students offered suggestions one after another. Chloe's mother from Class 4 (4) confirmed the ideas of the students. She further explained that HR would not only pay attention to applicants’ relevant vocational skills, but also soft strengths such as self-drive, leadership and action, as well as the degree of fit with the enterprise. Of course, the job of HR department is not only hiring employees. Instead, Chloe's mother also showed the students that there are many other aspects, such as coordinating the salary structure, organizational and employee development, cultivating corporate culture, etc.
Finally, Chloe's mother hopes that the students can continue to strengthen their comprehensive ability in both study and daily life by reading more, thinking more, keeping trying and challenging. She believed that in the future students will find their own passion and develop it into a lifelong career!
The enthusiastic sharing provided by the four parents opened a window for students to look into the future, helping students to understand the rich and diverse career life at a young age, broaden their career horizon, and establish a positive career outlook!
