38th Shanghai Youth Science and Technology Innovation Contest Excellent Projects Lectures

Our school recently organized a scientific and technological innovation achievement sharing meeting as part of the Science and Technology Festival of SHSID Primary and Middle School Sections. The event aimed to provide a platform for students to showcase and share their excellent projects as well as an opportunity for students who are about to undertake research projects to learn and communicate.

The sharing sessions were conducted both online and offline. Multiple sessions were arranged from April 23 to 28, 2023, so that teachers, students, and parents could choose topics of interest to carry out study exchanges. Each project was based on one of the five different disciplines, including life science, environmental science, engineering, computer science and information technology, and behavior and social science.

The seniors who had participated in the 38th Shanghai Youth Science and Technology Innovation Contest were invited to share their experiences and learnings with the sixth- and seventh-grade students. The participants shared their scientific and technological innovation experience, fully demonstrating the growth and harvest of their scientific research thinking. The students learned about the content and significance of the competition, gained a clearer understanding of scientific research life, and were stimulated to pursue scientific research in the future. The projects presented at the event were diverse, including research on the toxic effect of microplastics in the soil environment on earthworms, the design of auxiliary makeup for people with abnormal color vision, school bus route planning model and algorithm research, and consumption sociology research of "post-Z" during the epidemic prevention and control period in Shanghai.

Overall, the event was a great success, and we look forward to more excellent innovative projects next year!

Science and Technology Festival Expert Lectures

The Science and Technology Festival for SHSID Primary and Middle School Sections aims to encourage students to actively explore science, cultivate scientific research sensitivity, and improve students' scientific aesthetics. This year's expert lectures spanned from April 4 to early May and featured many experts and professors from different fields, including oceanography, environmental science, clinical and basic medicine, journalism, physics, and psychology, bringing a "technical feast" to the students.

The festival featured many notable speakers. Professor Chen Qiqing started with a vivid and interesting story about marine microplastics that aroused the curiosity of the students. Dr. Yu Xiao shared her personal experience in the epidemic to reveal the secrets of the epidemiological investigation mechanism for the students. Associate Professor Feng Nannan introduced the screening and follow-up research of mild cognitive impairment among the elderly in the community. Professor Cui Di explained how to understand fans culture in the digital age from different perspectives. Professor Wu Yuren led the children in playing while learning and learn by playing. Professor Li Xuan introduced her research in child psychology in a popular science format, focusing on the father's role in children's development, parent-child interaction and relationship, etc.

Through the expert lectures, students had the opportunity to come into contact with hot issues in different professional fields Moreover, the students' curiosity and interest in various fields were satisfied in the process of face-to-face communication with experts. The month-long expert lectures ignited the children's enthusiasm for scientific research and stimulated their desire to explore the unknowns.

Overall, the Science and Technology Festival for SHSID Primary and Middle School Sections successfully achieved its goal of encouraging students to explore science, cultivate scientific research sensitivity, and improve students' scientific aesthetics. It is hoped that the festival will continue to inspire children to maintain their curiosity and enthusiasm for the world and to use logic and innovative thinking to light up the stars of science.
