Grades 9-10: Club Showcase
At the end of April, the vibrant colors of spring heralded in a renewed sense of energy and excitement, marking the arrival of the highly anticipated Grade 9-10 club showcase. Students had eagerly awaited the blast of activities that the diverse clubs of SHSID had prepared for this special occasion. They were greeted by 80 desks set up as stations for over 50 clubs. Amidst the sounds of chatter, the bell for the afternoon’s second period signaled the time for students to enjoy and explore the grand melting pot of hobbies and interests. It was also the time when “club ambassadors” took a deep breath in preparation for the showcase.
For STEM-inclined students, clubs such as the Competitive Robotics Club, Chemistry Competition Club, and Electronics Club provided a range of activities from competitive trivia to intriguing experiments. During the fair, Science Academy's visually appealing experiments, such as dry ice bubbles and lava lamp experiments, captured the attention of many, which certainly brought out the beauty and excitement of science. Clubs like Girls’ Programming Club also presented some hands-on Python games that group members had worked on in the past semester. There were also plenty of humanities-related clubs like the History Hub, Chinese Debate Club, Philosophy Club, Exploring the Charm of China Club, and various book clubs, which provided a myriad of themed games and trivia. The "famous literature trivia” presented by “Some Random Book Club” caught the attention of many, with crowds forming steadily as skillful responders recited their knowledge and won small but meaningful prizes.
On such a diverse occasion, it would only be fair if students were challenged not only mentally but also physically. The chair-lifting challenge presented by the Fitness Club was a real crowd-pleaser, literally and figuratively lifting competitive spirits high. Among community service-centered clubs, the Louver brought attention to the challenges faced by blind people and provided opportunities for participant to read and write braille. Last but not least, music and art clubs offered a diverse range of activities from band performances to art showcases. The song-guessing game held by “Sound of Souls” attracted music lovers of all genres.
The SHSID Grade 9-10 club showcase provided a rich and varied experience for all who attended. With over 50 diverse clubs represented, the showcase not only offered opportunities for students to have fun and learn new things but also served as an important platform for clubs to demonstrate their progress to a larger audience. All the 9th- and 10th-grade students will also cast their precious votes to support the best club in their minds to enter the next round of selection. The display of a variety of clubs also makes this choice particularly difficult. We wish the showcase will continue to grow and evolve in the future, providing even more opportunities for students to connect, learn, and make a difference.
