Puxi Campus G4-5: Enjoy the Nature, Learn New Knowledge — Spring Field Trip
Spring is here, everything is reviving, and nature is becoming beautiful and vibrant. It's a great time to get out of the city, get close to nature and learn, and on April 27, we finally had the long-awaited spring study session for the 4th and 5th graders of SHSID Puxi campus. The fourth graders went to the Oriental Land where fun and nature coexist, while the fifth grade's spring study session was held at the beautiful Yuehu Sculpture Park. Let's leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind and go for a walk outdoors to enjoy the good times of spring while learning more in another way that gets you off campus.
Grade 4
The students of Grade Four came to the Oriental Land UAV Base in the morning to carry out research activities. Through the teacher's explanation and careful observation, the students quickly identified the differences between traditional aircraft and UAV, and learned that UAV has a very wide range of uses: UAV can not only be used for daily photography and video-taking, but also can be used for crop breeding and fire fighting, which reduces a lot of human work and improves work efficiency. The instructor operated the flight of the drone on the spot and let the students feel the lift and rotation of the drone. Under the drone hovering in the sky, students formed a smiley face shape as a class to take a unique group photo.
Later, the students assembled their own aircraft and made a test flight. In the process, the students showed a rich spirit of creativity and inquiry. The students observed the influence of different wind speed and direction and aircraft structure on flight, so some people installed different wings on the left and right side of their aircraft, and some increased the number of tail fins to achieve different flight routes. Some students even succeeded in making a gyroplane, which was praised by everyone.
Grade 5
Fifth grade student went to Yuehu Sculpture Park, which is a comprehensive art paradise, integrating modern sculpture art, natural and humanistic landscape and leisure facilities. The research activity was carried out based on the park’s main feature with the theme "The Wonderful Journey of Graphics", which consisted of lectures and practice. First, the lecturer started with the park sculpture "Darwin" and guided students to think differently through simple graphics. Then, each group was given a set of postcards from which the students had to find a connection and come up to the stage to tell their ideas. During the lecture, students learned about the types, history and trends of sculpture, which led to more interest and curiosity in sculpture.
When it came to the hands-on session, students had to dress the sculpture paper in colorful clothes to make it look new and beautiful. The whole activity aimed to cultivate students' divergent thinking by exploring multiple angles and envisioning multiple answers, allowing them to feel creative and fun in the world of graphics.
In this study activity about sculpture and art, students learned a lot about sculpture through hands-on experience and communication. The students were deeply attracted by various types of sculptures, gained a deeper knowledge and understanding of culture and art, and further expanded their knowledge of art related to sculpture. The relief of creating their own sculptures also allowed them to feel the unique charm of sculpture art.
At noon, the students relaxed on the large lawn in the park and enjoyed the warm spring sunshine. The students all brought a delicious lunch and each laid out their lunch mat before sharing a picnic lunch in the sun. On the lawn, students chatted, played games and frisbee, enjoyed a lot of outdoor activities, and shared each other's happiness.
In the process of going out to play, many students in Grade four and five showed a commendable teamwork and collaboration. When a partner felt tired, some students take the initiative to help carrying the backpack, or encourage each other. Some students are afraid of peers falling behind, so they made the class flag as a sign. Although the time is very short, but this study activity let the fourth and fifth grade teachers and students spent an unforgettable day, in this beautiful day to swim in nature, gain knowledge, relax mood, enhance friendship, and enrich the campus life!
