Grade 7 YD Class: Tips for Stress Relieving
As the first major test for the second semester of the year is approaching, some students were found nervous or even anxious about their studies. This week’s YD class was targeted at the students concerns about the midterms, sharing many tips about soothing nerves and reviewing work.
The teacher started off the lesson with “Laugh a Little”. This was followed, to the students surprise, by a series of humorous animal videos and jokes. The teacher explained that relaxation was one of the key ways to enhanced performance. Whether or not in preparation or performance, laughing and loosening up a little always does good. This then transitioned into the topic of meditation, where a meditation video played and students tried meditating. Many students found the relaxation strategy that worked for them.
The next part of the lesson was tied closely with review using a “Memorization Game”. While the concept of “review is not about memorization, it is about application” was being introduced, each student received a sheet of lined paper. The rules of the game were simple, as words would appear on the white board for twenty seconds, students could not write on the paper during this period of time. When the words disappeared, thirty seconds would be given to write as many words as they could remember in order. In the first round, the students scored around three words correctly. In the second round, the number soared up to eight. This experiment not only proved how crucial it was to apply what was learned on paper, it also showed the importance of repetition.
Wrapping up the lesson, some last words of advice were given. Although tempting, cramming work is not a habit that can sustain a schedule. Additionally, this lesson also enlightened those students who were worried about the exam. The exam is just a tool to help a person improve in the future, which we need to face with a positive attitude.
With these words, the day drew to an end and the teachers wished the students best of success in studying!
