Grade 10 Assembly: Chinese Traditional Silk Flowers

April 14, 2023

On April the 12, students of Grade 10 listened during assembly to the informative presentation given by Amber from 10(9) on silk flowers.

During leisure time, Amber doesn't want to stare at her phone, so she started developing her only hobby: handicrafts. By chance, she learned about the ancient Chinese custom and skill of making silk flowers that had been passed down from the Ming dynasty and began to further deepen her knowledge of this craft. She quickly placed an order for the relevant materials and started making her first work. During the production process, she found that this craft was much more complex than she had imagined. Although there were relevant videos guiding her, there were also many unexpected occurrences. The obstacles of silk sliding, ugly wiring, and irregular shaping of the works all appeared in front of her, but Amber did not give up on this albeit time-consuming and attractive process. She began to spend all her free time working on this skill, not only elevating her craft, but also improving her aesthetics and understanding the combination and application of all materials to create better works. After multiple hones, her flower-wrapping skills have significantly improved, and her work efficiency has gradually increased. She didn't just create her works by simply buying material packs to create her work. She started designing various drafts and creating them herself, and also posted her work on social media platforms. Although these works did not attract very much attention now, they captivated many friends to come and watch or even purchase some of her creations.
