High School Psychology Seminar for Teachers and Parents' School: Accompanying Students with Heart

SHSID cares about students’ mental health. SHSID not only conducts psychological health guidance for students, but also arranges psychological training lectures for parents and teachers. Parents and teachers can learn the skills of communicating with students based on psychological study, so that we can better accompany and assist students growing, maintaining students’ mental health.

On Mar. 27, Mr. Yang from a professional institution gave a lecture on "Emotion Management with Students" for SHSID teachers in ZT Lecture Hall. Mr. Yang raised a question of “What is emotion?”, and introduced the classification of emotion, emotional characteristics, and emotional outbursts. By introducing several cases of emotional outbursts, Mr. Yang analyzed the reasons behind the emotional outbursts and tried to give solutions to these unexpected situations based on psychological knowledge. Mr. Yang pointed out that visual arts can express emotions. It provides a new way of self-expression, thereby promoting understanding with students. The audience benefited a lot and discussed with Mr. Yang some students' common emotional problems to explore more suitable communication approaches.

The next day, SHSID organized a parents’ school activity at XM Annex Auditorium. Ms. Fong from a professional institution conducted a special lecture on the theme of "Strengthening Unique Learning Profiles for Your Child: Assisting Your Child in Becoming a Better Learner". Ms. Fong first introduced the multi-intelligence model and the diversity of learning method type, and pointed out that choosing a suitable way of education according to the outstanding aspect of intelligence and learning types of students can give children more confidence. Later, Ms. Fong discussed with parents some questions and topics like "What is confidence?" and "How can we make children confident?”, and then pointed out that praising children's efforts and encouraging children can help them maintain confidence and courage. In addition, Ms. Fong also gave some methods to maintain students’ attention, so that students can adhere to learning and developing to have a better future. After the lecture, Ms. Fong invited parents to raise some questions that appear in family education and also provided the parents with suitable solutions.

Parents and teachers play an important role in the process of students' intelligence and mental development. The two psychological lectures have given SHSID teachers and parents a better understanding of the students' mental characteristics and personality development. The teachers will learn with the parents and play a competent role of "leader" in the process of students’ growth together.
