Puxi G4-5: After-Lunch Clubs

March 27, 2023

In order to enrich the students' after-lunch time, expanding their interested areas, Puxi G4-5 has prepared a series of after-lunch clubs.

After a two-week process of submitting, reviewing, and registering, a total of 12 after-lunch clubs were established, running four days a week. These clubs cover all aspects of students' daily lives that may be of interest to them. There are "Friendship Bracelet Workshop", "Friendship Club" and "Mindfulness Monday" where students can share various types of emotional exchanges and interact with each other, "Puzzle Club" and "Handcraft Club" where students can have fun and use their brains, and "STEM Club" which stimulates students to explore the world of science …

When asked about the idea of the Puzzle Club, Ms. Julie, the instructor of the Club, said, "Puzzle itself as a puzzle game can be a good exercise for students' brains. Jigsaw puzzles are not as simple as people usually think, it also has a lot of strategies and skills. Since the course is designed to be arranged with three to four people around a puzzle, this activity can also exercise students' teamwork skills. Students can also learn division of labor and communication skills as they discuss strategies together."

In order to better carry out the teaching, Mr. Shawn, the instructor of the STEM Club, to increase students' participation, prepared a lot of materials for practice. Sprinkling a little salt on the ice enables t-he ice to dissolve and then solidify back after a period of time. In order for students to understand and actually experience this amazing scientific phenomenon, Ms. Shawn did a fun experiment in front of the whole class. As he said, the original intention of designing this course is to enhance students' handson ability and exploration ability, and through cross-disciplinary practice, their comprehensive practical ability in science and technology subjects can be enhanced.

In order to attract students’ participation, the instructors of each lunch-time club have created attractive posters. These posters were exhibited in the hallways of the 4th and 5th grades. Students can decide whether they want to join, and how many after-lunch clubs they want to join, according to their preferences and schedules. After the clubs were launched, there are always many students in the classroom excitedly waiting for the teacher before the class officially starts.

As Harry from Class 4-7 said,“I think Frisbee after-lunch club is a great activity! Because students might not have time to do what they want after school, and now the after-lunch clubs provide us the opportunity. I really enjoyed playing frisbee with my friends! I hope the school could provide more after-lunch clubs in the future!”.

Julian from Year 5 finally enrolled in the long-awaited Friendship Club this year, saying, "I've wanted to join this club since I was in Year 4, but I missed it for various reasons. I'm very happy that I finally successfully enrolled this semester! In one activity, the teacher asked us to write down the color of the clothes you are wearing today, and if someone in the neighborhood is wearing the same color, then you can try to make friends with them. It made me learn a new way of making friends."

The bell rings at 12:10 p.m., and the students should continue their study after a short break. Although each after-lunch club activity only lasts for 20 minutes, students also enjoy the pleasure of exploring in their areas of interest with the various after-lunch clubs.
