Grade 11 Assembly: Introduction to Philosophy - New Course in Grade 12
On March 16, the XM Annex assembly started with a reminder to sign up for the talent show on Global Citizen Day. Next, the speaker of the assembly, Mr. Cussans, came to the stage. He introduced the new philosophy school course which will become available next semester. Mr. Cussans explained how this course does not require any prior knowledge and that students of all backgrounds could take the class. In this course, the students will explore interesting questions about perspective, logic, and the meaning of life.
Unlike stereotypical philosophy classes, the course consists of exciting seminar discussions, debates, videos, podcasts, academic research, and essay writing practice. The philosophy course provides many different activities to help students develop a passion toward philosophy. Lastly, Mr. Cussans introduced the possible career paths and advantages of philosophy. Philosophy enhances the critical thinking and academic research abilities of students, especially useful for other subjects in the humanities.
This new course for sure diversifies the course options and helps students explore their interests.
