Grade 10 Assembly: Scientific Method and Research

On March 15, Harrison from 10(7) delivered a speech about the scientific method and research activities to the sophomores during the morning assembly.

In the speech, Harrison first went through the basics about scientific research – what is meant by the scientific method, how to choose your field of research, and ways to incorporate personal interest, etc. Throughout his presentation, Harrison incorporated personal experiences on the challenges he faced and obstacles he encountered to reflect upon the hardships of research and reemphasize the importance of selecting a topic upon interest. Also, Harrison showcased his personal experiment timeline, including reading research literature, conducting experiments, and balancing engineering design with methodology development. Additionally, some extracurriculars and competitions were introduced, such as ISEF/ISEF Sichuan, S.T. Yau Science Awards, and many opportunities where SHSID strongly supports the students’ endeavors. With that, Harrison concluded on the note that it’s important to have determination, possess a never-ending curiosity, and choose the right, suitable topic in order to present a well-crafted research result.
