Puxi Grade 2 Science: Learn about Weather

March 14, 2023

All of our Grade 2 students at SHSID Puxi campus have been studying the weather over the past few days! In addition to looking out the window to see if it’s raining, they have also been enjoying the change of seasons, as well as doing class experiments to relate their knowledge to the real world.

After initially learning about the work of meteorologists, our students put themselves into making their own weather reports and comparing them to the professionals. Next, each class learned about different weather tools, after which students made their own weather stations. When the weather was clear, students walked outside the classroom with their cloud viewers to see the beautiful, fluffy cirrus and cumulus clouds. Also, Students need to make sure their station stayed safe and dry. To achieve this, they studied the water cycle using ice, hot water and jars to observe the evaporation, condensation, precipitation and collection of water. Finally, students should learn that weather can also be dangerous! Experiencing a tornado in real life might be a bit dangerous and scary for kids. Therefore, the students were encouraged to manage to further their understanding of the phenomena by creating their own tornadoes in a jar!

Learning about weather has never been as fun as it is in Grade 2 at SHSID!
