Middle School Math Department: Rubik’s Cube Competition
The pursuit of speed has always been engraved in human genes. In ancient times, people's competition in running and swimming gradually evolved into modern athletics and swimming events. When the Rubik's Cube was invented and more and more solutions were found, people naturally had the idea of competing to see who could restore it faster.
The middle school students of SHSID had a unique Rubik's Cube competition in preparation for the upcoming Pi Day math event. Teachers promoted the event through P&B and math classes before, and interested students signed up through LC online platform or offline with teachers.
The competition was divided into preliminaries and finals. Firstly, the middle school section started the preliminaries by grade. Students were grouped according to the type of cube they signed up for, including third-order, fourth-order, and special-shaped cubes. When the timer sounded, the Rubik's Cube seemed to be injected with life and turned rapidly in the participants' hands. The players maintained a high level of concentration and thought quickly, while the students and teachers watching the competition held their breaths and cheered for them excitedly.
The contestants competed in one round of competition and made it to the final round. In the final round, the players showed their excellent skills in Rubik's Cube. In just a few dozen seconds, the originally disordered Rubik's Cube was restored and the colorful cubes glowed like a rainbow in the hands of the players. After fierce competition and careful selection by the judges, the competition ended with warm applause of the awards.
Rubik's cube is a competitive and educational project, which not only provides a stage for students to show themselves and enriches school life, but also has a subtle effect on cultivating students' hands-on ability, quick thinking and spatial imagination.
