Grade 7 Basketball Competition: Ready, Set, Shoot!

March 14, 2023

As students are becoming more and more reliant on technology to do everyday tasks, they begin to lack both exercise and social skills. Students from the associative student body (ASB) of grade seven devised a clever plan to combat both of these issues, organizing a friendly basketball competition between the different homerooms.

The contest was split into two different sections -- the class competition and the individual rounds. In the class competition, eight girls and eight boys from each homeroom were selected to shoot at the three-point line. They shot the balls in order for three minutes, and as an extra twist, the students weren’t allowed to step over the three-point line and also weren’t allowed to skip or repeat turns. Though not all students had experience in basketball, the cheers from their classmates motivated them to try their best and help their classes as well. In order to help out, other students volunteered to catch stray basketballs or to help referee other classes.

In the individual rounds, four volunteers from each class were chosen. Like the class competition, the students shot the basketballs from the three-point line. Volunteers from the associative student body helped count the number of shots successfully made. Crowds of other students gathered to watch and inspire their friends, and everybody was willing to participate in some kind of role.

Overall, the basketball competition was very successful. The shooting practice allowed the students of seventh grade to explore basketball and fitness, as well as develop bonds between classmates in a friendly competition.
