Grade 9 Assembly: The Role of Hobbies
On Tuesday, March 7, Grade-9 students once again filed into the Zhentao Lecture Hall for their weekly assembly. This week was a special one - as a way to raise awareness of how much work it takes to maintain the school and keep it up and running, students from across the grade were given the chance to volunteer to help do a certain job in the school - like patrolling the hallways, standing guard at school entrances, and making sure people actually throw away their trash near the supermarket. This labor education experience week was hosted in the hopes of better maintaining a clean and orderly environment on campus, helping students understand the importance of labor, and better generating a sense of responsibility for all. Then, Chelsea from class 9(10), on behalf of the whole of Grade 9, read the Supermarket Environment Self-Maintenance Initiative Pledge. In this, she, along with all other ninth graders, promised to actively help maintain the cleanliness of the school supermarket.
Then came the student representative speech. This time, Isabel Qian from class 9(12) came on stage and gave a lecture on her relationship with hobbies and why they were so important to her. Her main hobby was dance, and she explained that, despite loving it, there were also struggles. For one, she finds it harder to find time to pursue her hobby. For another, the pain of practicing dance isn’t very easy to bear. At the end of the speech, she urged everyone to pursue their hobbies and carefully balance their time. Isabel’s speech ended with a round of applause.
