Middle School Section: SHAMUN Achieved Further Success
Recently, the SHAMUN conference was hosted at Shanghai American School on March 3rd and 4th. It was an amazing experience for all the students who participated. The conference was attended by over 300 students from 16 different schools in Shanghai and other cities in the region, and it was a great opportunity for them to meet new people, make friends, and learn new things.
The conference was well-organized, with different committees discussing various issues such as climate change, human rights, and cybercrimes. The delegates engaged in intense debates, negotiated with each other, and worked towards finding solutions to global problems.
One of the highlights of the conference was the keynote speaker, a prominent diplomat who shared insights about her experiences working in the United Nations and as ambassador for the United States in multiple countries. Her speech was inspiring and motivating, and it encouraged the delegates to continue pursuing their interests in diplomacy and international relations.
At this conference, there were quite a few students from SHSID who were given awards in various committees:
In General Assembly 1:
Alexandra 7(1), Honorable Mention
In General Assembly 2:
Yoyo 8(10), Honorable Mention.
Sophie 7(9), Outstanding Delegate award.
In General Assembly 3:
Kirsty 7(7), Outstanding Delegate.
Hayley 7(8), Honorable Mention.
In the Economic and Social Council:
Lucas 8(2) & Genivee 8(13), Honorable Mentions.
In Security Council:
Bill 8(12), Outstanding Delegate award.
In the Disarmament Committee:
Justin 8(3), Honorable Mention.
Overall, the MUN conference was a great success. Students learned a lot about diplomacy, international relations, and global issues and developed valuable public speaking, negotiation, and teamwork skills. They also had a lot of fun, made new friends, and created lasting memories. SHSID looks forward to attending more MUN conferences in the future and providing our students with opportunities to learn and grow.
