G6 YD Class: Puberty Education
Puberty is an exciting but challenging and confusing period, and a crucial time for students to mature, explore themselves and find their values. During the two YD sessions on 23 February, Grade 6 students were guided by their grade teachers and homeroom teachers into adolescence to better understand their growth and changes.
Boys and girls were in separate classrooms learning and discussing various topics about puberty, such as what puberty is, what physical and psychological changes occur during this time, and how to perceive these changes. Although everyone's experiences and feelings were different, these topics were crucial to all students and resonated with everyone.
In order to give students a more correct and objective understanding of themselves, teachers prepared a variety of interesting communication activities and relevant topics to help them focus on their physical and mental health. Students would feel confident that they can seek help from the teachers around them, no matter what kind of problems or confusion they are facing. If students felt embarrassed to ask, they could also write their questions on the paper and hand it in to the teacher anonymously. After this session, students felt that they were not alone and that all their confusion and feelings were worthy of being taken seriously as they were answered and shared one by one.
During this phase of adolescence, everyone will experience a variety of changes and challenges. If we can respect our own feelings, understand and support each other, we will be able to navigate the rapids with more confidence and vigour.
