Primary Chinese: Winter Vacation Chinese Homework Display

February 24, 2023

The Year of the Rabbit is coming! In the first week of school, the students gathered again and can’t wait to talk about their growth during the past winter vacation.

Grade 1

G1-3 students demonstrated their Chinese winter homework this week. Grade 1 students shared their enriching holidays with each other. Look, this one is holding ski poles and pedaling skis, experiencing the joy of skiing. Another student was dressing as a chef, wearing a homemade "chef's hat" and a small apron, standing in front of the stove and cooking. Some children shared their time with their parents and learned to take the initiative to take care of their families during the holidays -- sweeping and mopping the floor, taking out the garbage... With small efforts, the children expressed their great gratitude to their parents.

Grade 2

During the holidays, the second graders turned into "songwriters". They re-imagined the lyrics for the popular "Little Star" and sang it. "Little Star" was changed to "Little Tiger", dressed in a handsome striped suit, walking on the plain with a lively spirit. One of the students wrote a “homework song" that tells the joy of soaring in different assignments. Some students were inspired by the people around them, singing for their mischievous but cute younger brother, and their brave and dedicated father.

Grade 3

The third grade showed excellent Chinese character writing skills and video production skills during the winter vacation homework. They used traditional Chinese characters to transcribe various ancient poems that have been passed down through the ages. Some students wrote Chinese characters in an organized and neat way. In addition, the third-grade students also used Clips software to record and introduce their three good habits, making schedules, setting alarms, cleaning stationery regularly, washing hands and changing clothes when entering the door...

Grade 4

Grade four students kept good reading habits in winter break. They chose 20 reading comprehension exercises and finished based on their own schedule. Students also chose two favorite books and wrote reading reports for each. In their reports, they summarized the main plot, analyzed characters, copied down good phrases and sentences, and wrote reasons why they chose the books. It is always fun to read students’ adaptions of the stories which show great imagination.

Students learned plenty of classic Chinese poems last semester and reviewed them in the winter break by creating poetry posters. The plentiful and colorful images present our students’ deep and unique understanding of the poems. With the neat and beautiful handwriting, the posters created an enjoyable scenery in the hallway.

During Chinese Spring Festival, students continued to observe their daily lives and explored the traditional cultures. They recorded plenty of traditions and customs of Chinese Spring Festival and made a dish on their own. With the vivid descriptions and pictures, students showed us the tempting dishes they had.

Grade 5

There were several hot movies in winter break. Students were encouraged to go to the cinema and watch movies, and then make a recommendation card. Fifth grade students watched two movies, either new ones or previously watched ones, and wrote the plots and thoughts in the recommendation card. Students shared their thoughts on plot, character, frame, special effects, and so on, showing great thinking and communication skills.

Fifth grade students not only spent spring festival with families, but also celebrated it online with teachers and classmates. The greeting for new year is a must during this time. Thus, students sent their greetings on LC platform, giving good wishes to teachers and classmates. Some of them also recorded their new year experiences with video, sharing great moments from new year dinner, wearing traditional clothes and customs, etc.

Last but not least, students made delicate reading reports. Using vivid pictures and thoughtful descriptions, they presented the plot, character features, character relationships, etc. Meanwhile, students took a step further and raised their own questions and continued to write the story, presenting lots of imaginative writings.

During the recent winter break, SHSID primary school students kept working hard in Chinese, maintained good reading habits and critical thinking. We expect our students to keep up the good work and gain outstanding outcomes in the coming semester!
