G7 Chinese: Approaching Modern Literary Masters
The charm of literature lies in its power to leave indelible memories in people's minds. In order to strengthen the students' understanding of modern literature works and improve their enthusiasm for learning Chinese, the 7th grade Chinese group carried out a colorful and highly creative series of activities called "Approaching the Master of Modern Literature.". Based on classroom teaching, the course is designed to guide students to recall and interpret the classics by making magazines, listening to lectures, writing letters to writers, and holding recitation contests. These activities vividly show the classical works of Chinese and foreign modern literature and presents a wonderful feast for teachers and students of all grades.
Magazine Production and Display
The seventh-grade Chinese group teachers carefully selected several masterpieces of modern literature, including Zhang Ailing, Lu Xun, Xiao Hong and other famous writers’ classic works. The students first learned basic information about the writer's life experience and stories in a group. They collected information about their ideology and character in the form of biographies, videos, visits to former residences and more. After intensive reading of the selected works, group members analyzed and discussed them from different perspectives, such as the creation background, writing style, theme implication, literary image, and expression techniques. They also explored the connotation of the works in multiple dimensions, and wrote reading notes. Our students, as teenagers in the new era, creatively communicated with the literary giants of the same century "face to face" in the form of letters to express their thoughts. Finally, each group gathered the results, and typeset, proofread as well as draw, and produced a beautiful magazine. The audience also rushed to read and roamed in the sea of literature.
Expert Lecture -- Six Moments of Lu Xun's Literature
In the afternoon of December 1st, Professor Zhang Chuntian from East China Normal University brought a wonderful lecture full of knowledge and fun to all seventh-grade teachers and students in the auditorium of Xianmian Hall. The lecture focused on the six "critical moments" of Lu Xun's literature, analyzing what he and other modern writers thought and wrote about at that time. These six literary moments guided us into complicated historical territory and remind us to constantly think and debate what literature is and what it is for.
Recitation Contest
The recitation adds wings to the classics, builds a bridge between vision and hearing, endows words with sound and image, and makes static words flow and flourish. The finalists selected by each class were either impassioned and forceful, or gentle and graceful. Zhu Ziqing's "Hurry", "A Letter to Mr. Lu Xun" and "A Letter to Zhang Ailing", where the writings selected by the finalists. After fierce competition and grade voting, the seventh-grade recitation competition ended successfully.
