Grades 9-10: English Speech Competition
On Wednesday, December 7th, SHSID’s 9th and 10th grade English Speech Competition, an event which allows students to exercise and showcase their skills in public speaking, was held in the grand auditorium. Under the gazes of the four teacher judges and their student peers, each participant stepped onto the stage with confidence.
For this competition, participants’ speeches were adapted from the pieces they had submitted to the English Writing Competition Committee, which had asked participants to write about a specific action to make the world an enviornentally better place. Each participant chose a unique perspective to show the responsibilities they can take on as a teenager and make a call to the public.
With detailed data, vivid stories, appropriate metaphors, or touching appeals, the participants presented to the audience the current situation of damaged environment, and proposed effective solutions. Although there was only 4 minutes to speak, the powerful and convincing words of the participants won warm applause from the audience and were highly affirmed by the judge teachers.
Finally, this English speech competition came to an end in the musical instrument performance brought by the MFP club. The wonderful sound of music comes from harmonious notes. Hope that all students can also shoulder their responsibilities and actively maintain the harmonious relationship between humans and nature.
Overall, this was a day in which public speaking talent and brilliant rhetorical skills were celebrated and put to the test. Congratulations to all winners. Thank you to all student participants, ASB members, and English teachers working behind-the-scenes for making the event such a success. We are already looking forward to more outstanding performances next year.
