Lingang Grade 1: Fun Science Experiment

December 7, 2022

During the first semester for grade one at SHSID Lingang campus, students have been learning about the different parts of a plant as well as their needs in science class.

To provide a more fun and hands-on way to acquire this knowledge, each group of students planted their own plants – lentils in this case. This way students can observe and care for a plant from a seed to maturity.

Every Monday, students make an entry in their “My Plant Observation Journal”. Each journal entry includes date records, an illustration of their plant, as well as a written observation.

Students are also constantly monitoring the progress and health of their plants. For example, they check the moisture level and determine when and how much water they should add. They also enjoy comparing their plants with the plants of other groups.

Such activities allow students to learn a lot while having fun. In learning, students can promote their own observation, thinking, cooperation and expression in a comprehensive way, and gain a lot of fun at the same time.
