Pudong Campus: Reading Month
In November, SHSID Pudong Campus had the long-awaited reading month. Each grade carried out a series of reading-related activities, allowing students to wander in the sea of books and appreciate the charm of words.
G1
In order to improve students' interest in reading and encourage them to learn from each other from reading, the first grade held a "Reading Buddies" activity. The teachers paired students from two classes in the first grade, and each student needed to share a book with his/her reading partner. In addition to sharing books with each other, students also completed a "Find Someone" form. There are many questions listed in the form, such as: who likes to read the most, who has a cat, who likes math class, etc., and students needed to find the right people who meet the requirements and write down their names. Through this activity, the students of the two classes not only shared the books they read with each other, but also got to know new partners better.
G2-3
In the Chinese class of the second grade, the teachers led the students to complete the whole book reading activity of "Mole's Moon River" story. Students needed to complete the report while reading. In addition to the accumulation of new words, what they got was not only the pleasant reading experience, but also the emotion that the author wanted to express.
The third-grade teachers invited the students to complete the book recommendation activity -- "You Should Read This Book". On the posters, students introduced the recommended book information to the students, such as the genre, title, author, and the reason for the recommendation. In this reading activity, they not only improved reading and writing skills as well as presentation skills, but also got more good book choices from the recommendation!
In the PG class of the twelfth week, the Reading Buddies activity was held in the second and third grades. The older brothers and sisters in the third grade read and answered questions for the lower graders patiently. Students from G2 and G3 exchanged ideas and opinions with each other from time to time, enjoying traveling in the sea of books.
G4
In the fourth grade, parents and children read a book together. Students needed to choose a book from the recommended Chinese books for the fourth grade and read it together with their parents for three weeks. Week 1: How much do you know about the stories in the book? Students and parents each chose a character and introduced the personality characteristics to each other. Week 2: parent-child interaction competition. Students and parents asked questions and gave answers based on the content of the story. Week 3: reading experience and feedback. Students and parents shared and exchanged reading experience in the last week and had a better understanding of the content of the book. Through this activity, students gained more opportunities to read, communicate and share their reading experiences with their families, thus making them feel the joy of reading more.
G5
The fifth-grade teachers asked the students to choose a good book, read the chapters and stories they liked aloud in class, and shared them with their partners. At the same time, in order to make the students feel the beauty of the language, everyone read the classic book "Mr. Mouse is Late" in the Chinese class, experiencing the interesting stories of the author's childhood living in the Summer Palace with relish. After class, students also needed to complete the questions of the corresponding chapters, which not only helped them review and summarize the important plots in the article, but also guided them to understand the emotions of the protagonist through the details. In the English class, students read poems while turning into "little poets" to create poems. Through these various forms of reading activities, students were able to draw the power of reading.
Even though reading month was ended, reading is not over. After a month of infiltration with the smelling of books, the students gained a wealth of knowledge and interest in reading. Let us continue to accumulate knowledge in the book and gain insights from reading!
