Grade 11:Drama Course Showcase

December 1, 2022

Throughout the majority of the first semester, Grade-11 students attended a weekly drama program targeted towards cultivating communicative, creative, and expressive skills. Our fabulous teachers would randomly create scenarios for students to perform, challenging their impromptu abilities and dramatic expression. A perfect balance of being challenging and fun, drama class introduced elements of education that are not explored in the regular curriculum. Driving students to interact and perform with their peers, the classes encouraged non-academic growth.

November 30th was the final drama performance for Grade-11 students. They were assigned to perform a modern recreation of Shakespearean plays, and different groups had unique takes on these centuries-old classics. Incorporating humor and mainstream memes into classic plays, the students’ creative takes demonstrated drama’s various possibilities as this medium allows students to merge their thoughts and ideas with plays to create a new performance.

During their performances, the interactions between students were magical. Watching them communicate with each other via dialogue and/or body language showed hints of talented actors. Through facial expressions and tone, micro-adjustments to their performance demonstrated their attention to detail and their attentive attitude. Even in humorous and not-so-serious skits, the actors restrained themselves from bursting out in laughter, trying their hardest to present the best performance they could offer.

Watching from the audience, students and teachers alike offered their greatest attention and support to and for the acting groups. This performance was also a great opportunity for students to overcome stage fright; with warm encouragement from the audience, they could freely express their creativity and skill. This show offered the perfect conclusion to the drama program, reflecting the progress the students have made and the influence the teachers have left behind. Some students were utterly transformed: socially introverts have become confident and expressive actors. For the students, teachers, and audience, the drama performance was a massive success.
