High School Biology Department: Open Class - "Human Traits that Follow Mendelian Patterns of Inheritance"
On November 22 in the afternoon, Ms. Zhang Chenglei of the SHSID High School Biology Department arranged an open class "Human Traits that Follow Mendelian Patterns of Inheritance" in the B1 Recording Classroom of Zhentao Building. Teachers from different subjects were attracted to this open lesson.
Genetic diseases are caused by changes in human genes. In most organisms, genes are often in pairs. Pathogenic genes and normal genes can combine and form different genotypes. Based on the corresponding relationship between genotypes and phenotypes, pathogenic genes can be divided into dominant genes and recessive genes. On the other hand, genes are located on the chromosomes. The pathogenic genes located on the sex chromosomes will correlate related genetic diseases with gender. These complicated correspondences make the relevant content a key and difficult point in high school biology teaching. During the course, Ms. Zhang first led the students to review the symptoms of some common genetic diseases and distinguish on which chromosome the related pathogenic genes were located. Subsequently, Ms. Zhang drew the model figure to demonstrate the inheritance rules of these pathogenic genes and clarified the concept of unaffected people, patients with genetic diseases, and carriers of pathogenic genes. Ms. Zhang then set several relevant situations and let students summarize the inheritance laws of pathogenic genes. Through learning and summarizing, students could distinguish the inheriting way of pathogenic genes based on complex family genetic maps. Ms. Zhang used rich and diverse teaching forms, ingenious issues, and a compact and orderly teaching rhythm to benefit the teachers and students.
On November 25th, the High School Biology Department held a group meeting summarizing and discussing the situation of the open class and making arrangements for follow-up work. The research activities and teaching activities, including technology training, can help teachers and students further improve the teaching and learning effect. By constantly practicing and summarizing, the charm of the subject gets better rejuvenated. We look forward to forthcoming activities.
