High School Biology Department: Practice for Truth - Lab Classes

Biology is an experiment-based science, and the idea of seeking truth from facts runs through the teaching biology. In this semester, the biology group designed a series of lab courses for different grades, so that students can think about theoretical knowledge combined with practical findings.

The main content of the 9th grade course is "ecology and evolution", and in order to let students develop scientific thinking in experiment design, the 9th grade experiment "aquatic life bottles" was conducted to investigate the role of each component in a closed ecosystem. The experiment was conducted to investigate the role of each component in a closed ecosystem by controlling a single variable. Students designed their own bottles based on their research hypotheses and drew their own conclusions through continuous observation and recording. Different students also gained their own unique rewards from the long-term observation and cultivation.

In the 10th grade, the main content of the course is "Cell Biology, Biochemistry and Genetics", which involves more academic concepts of molecular mechanisms and abstract biochemical processes, and in order to let students feel more directly the phenomena that they cannot observe with the naked eye and appreciate the development of biology, a series of microscopic and biochemical experiments have been conducted in the 10th grade recently, including "use of compound microscopes", "identification of macromolecules", "osmosis through the onion skin cell", and "chromatography ". The experiments progressed in content and depth, and the students were able to better understand the concepts of biological knowledge and develop the ability to integrate and unify subject knowledge through their own practice, observation and recording of phenomena, and summarization of conclusions.
