Grade 9: Assembly—Story with Music

November 25, 2022

On November 22nd, the Grade-9 students had their weekly assembly in the Zhentao Lecture Hall. Tony from Class 9(7) shared his story with music and his experience in learning music. At first, like many other students, Tony was guided by his parents to learn musical instruments such as piano and violin, something he did not want to do. However, when Tony was in the third grade, he met an inspiring teacher and learned about musical theater. Musical theater is a form of music that combines both singing and acting, and this way of expressing music gradually caught his interest. After that, he took a special music training class and began to learn how to sing. He also said that learning music was difficult and time-consuming; however, when he’s on stage, Tony feels that the tough training was worth it after all.

Difficulties are inevitable in learning anything. Tony also mentioned the period of voice changing, often a difficult time to get over, especially for male singers. During the voice changing period, boys' voices turn deeper and coarser, which, to some extent, affects the notes they can sing. Tony felt unhappy for a while because of the changing of his voice, but thanks to the encouragement of his friends and teachers, he persevered and continued to go further down the road of music.

Just like Tony’s experience with music, we all will, in some way or another, face struggles when pursuing our dreams. When facing difficulties such as voice changing, Tony still pushed onward. In the end, he says he doesn't regret his choice of music and recommends that people try and learn about it. Tony’s sincere speech ended with a loud round of applause from the audience.
