Grade 7: Math PSA Project
The entire amount of greenhouse gases (such as carbon dioxide and methane) produced by human actions is known as a carbon footprint. The cumulative effects, which include increased ocean acidification, rising sea levels, more frequent and intense storms, mass species extinctions, food scarcity, and increased economic inequality, will be felt globally as carbon dioxide levels continue to rise, fueling further temperature increases. This week the math department created a PSA project to inform and cooperate with students on lessening carbon footprints.
Students were tasked to create an infographic displaying the issues of how our carbon footprints will affect a warming world. Top students then presented their ideas to the whole of Grade 7 in order to compete with each other for the award of: best presentation, best design and most creative. All of the students confidently presented their work, and much was learned in this important topic.
The best speaker, Joy from 7(2) felt that people should act to save our planet. “When I was searching for evidence for my project, I was able to truly realize the impact brought by carbon footprints. This presentation and project in general were incredibly beneficial to my world view, as well as the general reservation of knowledge to the whole grade. Before this, most people would have been unable to see how severe the problem really is. From the presentation, it gave me a great opportunity to exhibit the results of my effort in front of the whole grade. It also served as a chance to practice my public speaking skills. Overall, this was a really entertaining and interesting activity, and I hope to participate in it again.”
