Middle School Section: Together we try, Together we grow, Together we cheer

On October 11th 2022, the middle school section held the annual Sports Carnival at the Puxi Campus in the means to inspire sportsmanship, sharpen skills, and encourage teamwork.

At 12:30, teachers and students gathered in the auditorium to kick off the event. In the following week, students will experience the happiness brought by sports in four theme units -- the opening ceremony and cheerleading competition, Sports Carnival, Sports Art exhibition, and long rope competition.

The opening ceremony officially started with the slogans of the cheerleading teams of all grades. A total of 12 middle school teams would show the light of youth with energetic cheerleading performance.Ms. Zhang Zehong, SHS Party Secretary and vice principal, Mr. Liu Lian, SHSID middle and primary school principal, Ms. Miao Xiaoling, middle and primary school principal assistant, Mr. Ni Minxue, director of MPTC, Ms. Luo Hua, director of school affairs center of middle and primary school, Ms. Yan Zeng, vice director of school affairs center of middle and primary school, Ms. Zhangyi, director of G1-3 in Puxi campus, Mr. Shen Tianyuan, middle and primary school principal assistant and director of G6-8 attended the ceremony to cheer students on. Mr. Shen Tianyuan gave a brief speech to encourage everyone to actively participate and enjoy the moment. He then led students in joyful chanting. Following the announcement of principal Liu Lian, the exciting cheerleading competition began!

The groups of selected students then went on stage to perform the dances they prepared, with each group containing students from three classes. Although the preparation time given to these students was limited, everyone tried their best and prepared for all the details, from dance moves to group formations, from costumes to music and stage backgrounds. The students firstly stepped on stage, shouted out their designed slogans with great passion, marking the official start of the show. As the dances began, energetic songs boomed out from the auditorium speakers and many in the audience started to sing along, while the music and dances of other performances also received rounds of applause and cheers. Although some of the members might not have had any experience with dancing before, the overall effect and results were still very neat. The passion and energy from the cheerleading dancers’ performance kept the audience entertained.

The stage performances were concluding, and groups took their seats, as everyone eagerly waited for the announcement of each grade’s four awards, which included: best performance, most popular, best composing, and most creative. At last, the results were announced, and a representative was selected from each group to receive the award on stage. The cheerleading competition had officially come to an end, as the following sports carnival was gearing up to start.

The team activities including “The Steeplechase”, “The Hare and The Tortoise” and the “Super Wheeler” came into view with classes competing with each other for prizes and honor. There are 13 classes who participated in the competition, each with 8 boys and 7 girls elected ready to compete against each other. Though not everyone had triumphed, everyone had enjoyed the process.

The individual activities including badminton, darting, baseball, soccer, ping-pong, laser-shooting, ice skating, and basketball were also exciting. They all enjoyed this experience to try each of the sports themselves. Many of them began to grow interest in certain sports and gain confidence from these activities. The laughter of the students carried on as they collected stamps from each of the stations and gained new experience as well as awards and gifts.

It was an awesome carnival. Students tried their best, and everyone delivered excelling sportsmanship and teamwork. We look forward to a similar windy October morning for next year’s event.
