Middle School Math Department: G6 “Theme Park Tycoon” Math Project
Since the beginning of this school year, the sixth-grade students have been actively involved in an interesting math project called “Theme Park Tycoon” under the guidance of their math teacher. Students have taken great interest in the topic and actively thought and explored it. They design a variety of interesting roller coaster styles and various attractive investment promotions. The aim of the project is to make students think from the perspective of real amusement park operators and calculate amusement park ticket prices and operating costs. This project also combines the algebraic knowledge learned in mathematics. Apart from that, in order to make the project more realistic, the students collected a lot of real cases and data on their own and gave full play to their imagination and creativity to create various kinds of beautiful roller coaster promotional brochures.
In this project, the students not only practiced the ability of data retrieval, and accurately extracting useful and correct information, but also used their rich imagination to design a very special roller coaster project. At the same time, students also used the presentation format to openly exchange their proposals and learn from each other. Finally, the students actively reflected on the project, using the reflection part to review and think about what they did well and what needs to be further improved.
Through this project, students not only experienced the interesting application of mathematical knowledge in real life but also practiced their data retrieval and design skills. In this project, students gained knowledge, enhanced their sense of beauty, and made more meaningful connections with the world around them.
