Primary and Middle School Sections: Safety in School
Students came back to school with a cheerful mood in this pleasant September. Primary and Middle school sections delivered an important lesson to our students at the very beginning of the semester -- safety in school.
The fourth and fifth grade Personal Growth class started with a safety quiz, during which students discussed and reflected on safety issues in aspects of school life, such as no running in the hallway, no pushing on the stairs, etc. Through individual questions and group competitions, students gained a better understanding of important rules of safety in life and safe solutions to emergent situations.
In class, teachers also emphasized on school bus safety, reminding students to fasten their seatbelts, not to stand up during the driving and avoid the blind areas on campus. This helps students raise their awareness in traffic safety and further protect themselves outside campus.
School also pays attention to students’ mental health and building the school community. With the guidance of teachers, students provided many great ideas on how to show kindness in school. Students and teachers further organized these ideas and made class agreement posters, which were later put on the wall in the classrooms, reminding students to always keep kindness in mind and show responsibility to our school community.
Associated Student Board of the fifth-grade has already been selected. They become little safety guard and take break and recess duty in the hallway, reminding and supervising students of no running or chasing around. We appreciate ASB students for creating a harmonious and loving school environment.
On the afternoon of September 22, students in grades 4 to 8 carried out a fire drill to put the safety knowledge learned in the classroom into practice.
As the alarm sound echoed through the hallways, the students immediately stood up. Quickly and quietly, they rushed to the lawn outside Zhongxing Building under the guidance and care of the teachers and lined up in order to wait for the teachers’ roll call. After the teachers confirmed that all the students had arrived, they raised the corresponding color sign to indicate the situation of each class. Each color relates to the correct number of students arriving safely.
The same scene also happened in the Zhentao Building. Under the guidance of the teachers, the eighth-grade students quickly withdrew from the fourth floor and arranged in order in the space between the Zhentao Building and the Engineering Building.
The exercises on both sides were very smooth, and the whole process took less than four minutes, which was partly due to the previous exercises. In the P&B class yesterday, homeroom teachers led the students to do a small-scale exercise to make each student familiar with the escape route, the escape rules, such as not taking any personal belongings, not running, pushing, trying to lower the center of gravity, etc., always remember safety first!
Through this fire drill, the students learned how to escape safely, and also deeply understood that they should be calm and not panic when encountering anything.
