Primary Math: Carnival of Math in Summer — A Collection of Math Summer Homework

September 16, 2022

The approach of September sweeps the regrets away from summer. The campus is full of students’ smiley faces and laughter again with the arrival of autumn as well as magnificently-designed summer homework from our students.

During the summer vacation, second graders made posters introducing their national money. These lifelike posters are like history books. The great people portrayed on money lead the children to go back to the past and experience the ups and downs of countries. Whether it's a cup of coffee, a movie ticket, a haircut or a birthday gift, children can fully mobilize their memories and find the daily use of money in all aspects of life.

Third graders were enthusiastic about running their own cinema on paper. Rows and columns were used to design the seating arrangement, different shapes were used to indicate the ticket price of the movie, and multiplication skills were used to calculate the daily profit and loss. Standing in front of the small movie theatre, staring at the well-ordered screening schedule, it seems that you can see the crowds in front of the ticket office. The screening room is crowded, while movies are being staged here without interruption. Everyone who enters it can feel a wonderful joy.

Grade 4 students have continued to practice calculation to increase their calculation skills. Other than that, students have made use of their maths skills and knowledge of perspectives to design cities in their mind. Bustling streets and beautiful buildings have come alive under the brushes of our little artists. With the help of students’ fabulous design, clever perspective techniques, as well as skilful use of three-dimensional graphics, Shanghai’s skyline has been brought to our campus. Those fantastic paintings have also brought us to beautiful Venice, a bustling racetrack, and Chinatown feeling like home. In addition, the water towns also remind us of a famous Chinese poem and we cannot help to say, “How can I forget Jiangnan?”

In order to become future mathematicians, the fourth graders did their own research and learned about the lives and achievements of famous mathematicians. They followed Pythagoras to explore the mystery of the triangle; followed Newton and Leibniz to be fascinated by the mysteries of modern calculus; Euclid, the father of geometry, led small mathematicians in the world of geometry; Gauss led students on an amazing journey into algebra...

The fifth graders also brought diverse and informative work to demonstrate their mathematical knowledge. A thick booklet of mathematical terms summarises what they have learned in the previous year: from algebra to geometry, length to volume, time to rate, fractions to proportion...Colourful posters take us back to the world of math. Do you remember how to find out the area of a plane figure? Can you work out the volume of a solid figure? Can you draw a floor plan for your house? Their rich and varied work tells us, "Sure!"

G5 students have used a great variety of ways to show their deep understanding towards math. Lemonade cartoon uses the knowledge of proportion to make delicious juice; the story of splitting money introduces division with remainders and Christmas-themed cartoon brings us to the mathematics in life. What’s more, students also wrote original songs with catchy lyrics and well-designed melodies about converting units; They also designed an animated Jungle Adventure applying various mathematical knowledge and skills to treasure hunting…

Autumn is a season of growing. As it opens the curtain of the new semester, students’ colorful work decorates the campus and adds a beautiful touch of vitality to our school life!
