G8:Service-Learning Reflection
At the end of the school year, the Service-Learning project achieved excellent results. On Thursday, May 26th, the 8th graders gathered to listen to the reflections of 14 brilliant Service-Learning groups rated as Gold or Silver Label in service-learning. They made videos of what they have done, what they have overcome, and their values of service.
The groups reflected on the past academic year in terms of the significance of the activities, the challenges encountered, and future improvements. The gold label group, Smile Charity, has always believed that "one small action may be seen as something significant in somewhere else", and has tirelessly developed the traditional activities of weaving and selling scarves, and collecting donations. While inheriting the past, students are also practicing innovation. The Tutoring Group of the gold label carried out a more interactive and interesting "braiding" activity in March. On the basis of fully exploring the potential and interests of members, it expanded the scope of tutoring and received unanimous praise. Another gold label group, the SciAcademy, has never stopped exploring. They care about all interesting scientific phenomena around them and try to share scientific knowledge through diversified methods (including popular science videos, media official accounts, magazines, posters, online and offline lectures, etc.).
As per the limitations of online learning, many groups met this challenge with agility. The Gazette has failed to sell any magazines this semester. They have, however, been industrious and thus successful in revising past methods regarding article writing, collecting student works, and magazine formatting. They have also finalized a new issue, due for release as soon as we get back to school. During the online sessions, Story Buddy members have also partnered with the Chinese group and created a “Reading Salon”. In this “Reading Salon”, students can come and join with their interest, where students can share their own thoughts on literature and hot topics. Many other groups chose to make videos and audiobooks to convey love and help others.
Of course, this was not the end of the sharing. Finally, the grade 8 teachers and students will vote for the excellent SL groups, which is an exciting moment for all of us. This article is one of the last works of the 2021-2022 Service Learning Groups, and we would like to thank all parents, teachers, and most importantly the students for helping to organize and participate throughout the 2021-2022 school year.
