Science and Engineering Festival: Science Bee
In the youth development class on Thursday, May 19, students in the middle school section of SHSID ushered in a wonderful and interesting online science bee competition. As one of the activities of this Science and Engineering Festival, the science bee competition was designed based on the previous nine extraordinary expert lectures. The purpose of the event is to further popularize scientific knowledge, improve students’ interest in scientific learning, and cultivate students’ passion for science and exploration.
This science bee competition was divided into two parts: an online quiz and an online rush-to-answer competition. In the first class, students went to the LC platform to complete a quiz with 100 questions. These 100 questions were carefully designed by the keynote experts who brought 9 wonderful lectures to the students in the previous weeks. For example, the questions, “What are the life stages of mosquitoes?” and “What are the new weapons against mosquitoes?” were based on the key information from the first expert lecture “Love and Hate Between Humans and Mosquitoes.” And like “The main ingredient of “罗宋汤Russian soup” is beef, but in Shanghai it has been changed into which of the following kinds of meat?” and “which one does not belong to the “四大金刚,” these questions came from the last two expert lectures on Shanghai Dialect.
The science bee questions involved animals, plants, marine science, linguistics, and other aspects. By answering them, the students not only reviewed the key points and highlights of the expert lectures but also further expanded their knowledge reserve. In the second section of the science bee competition, students from BBAGG service-learning group in Grade 8 joined the Tencent classrooms of each Grade 7 homeroom. They turned into hosts and brought an exciting rush-to-answer science competition to Grade 7 students. These questions covered all aspects of life science. Some came from the textbooks learned before, while others were cold knowledge and fun facts. The students also gained a lot of new information in the process of answering questions.
The whole online science bee competition was successfully completed in a tense and orderly atmosphere. We hope that students can maintain their love of learning in their future study and life, arm their brain with science, and light up their world with wisdom.
